Mold polishing has two faces;

1. Increase the smoothness of the product's surface and make the product surface smooth and beautiful
2 mold is easy to release, so that the plastic can not be detached
Mold polishing is generally used whetstone, sandpaper, polishing paste, etc., to mold the mold cavity surface, so that the working surface of the mold can be bright as a mirror process, called the mold grinding.

application

Polishing can increase the appearance of the workpiece, and can also improve the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the surface of the material. It can also facilitate the subsequent injection molding process. For example, the plastic product can be easily demolded and the injection molding cycle can be reduced.
The polishing mentioned in the plastic mold processing is very different from the surface polishing required in other industries. Strictly speaking, the polishing of the mold should be called mirror processing. It not only has high demands on the polishing itself but also has a high standard for surface smoothness, smoothness, and geometric accuracy. Surface polishing generally requires only a shiny surface. The standard of mirror processing is divided into four levels: AO=Ra0.008μm, A1=Ra0.016μm, A3=Ra0.032μm, and A4=Ra0.063μm. It is difficult to accurately control the geometric accuracy of parts due to electropolishing and fluid polishing. However, the surface quality of methods such as chemical polishing, ultrasonic polishing, and magnetic abrasive polishing cannot meet the requirements. Therefore, the mirror-finishing of precision molds is mainly based on mechanical polishing.
Plastic Mold Polishing Method - OTEC Precision Polishing Technology
Polishing not only increases the appearance of the workpiece, but also improves the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the material surface. It also allows the mold to have other advantages, such as making the plastic product easy to demold and reducing the production cycle time. Therefore, polishing is an important process in the production of plastic molds.

Polishing method:
● Mechanical polishing Mechanical polishing is a polishing method that removes the convex portion after being polished to obtain a smooth surface by cutting and plastically deforming the surface of the material. Usually, the oil stone, wool wheel, and sandpaper are used, and manual operations are mainly used, and special parts such as a rotary body are used. On the surface, auxiliary tools such as turntables can be used. Super-abrasive polishing can be used for high surface quality requirements. Ultra-precision polishing is the use of special grinding tools, in the grinding liquid containing abrasive, pressed on the workpiece surface is processed for high-speed rotary motion.
●Chemical Polishing Chemical polishing preferentially dissolves the relatively concave portions of the material in the microscopic surface of the chemical medium, resulting in a smooth surface. The main advantage of this method is that it does not require complicated equipment, it can polish workpieces with complex shapes, and can polish many workpieces at the same time with high efficiency.
● Electropolishing The basic principle of electropolishing is the same as that of chemical polishing, that is, by selectively dissolving tiny protruding parts of the surface of the material to make the surface smooth. Compared with chemical polishing, the effect of cathode reaction can be eliminated and the effect is better.

● Ultrasonic polishing The workpiece is placed in the abrasive suspension and placed in the ultrasonic field together. The ultrasonic vibration causes the abrasive to be ground and polished on the workpiece surface. Ultrasonic machining has a low macroscopic force and does not cause deformation of the workpiece, but it is difficult to make and install tooling.
